No charter today so the First Mat Dave and I went out on Dave's boat the Robin Jean to scope out some inshore fishing spots. The morning bite was ok, but the early afternoon shut right down. We did manage to get some nice cod and haddock, only 1 big fish today a 35lb cod which I jigged in the belly (felt more like 80lbs coming up sideways).
Well it wasn't the best day of fishing but at least we now have a better idea of where not to go when there are paying customers aboard.

Saturday, June 6, 2009
Well the commercial fishery opened up on June 1 @ 12AM, and as expected the commercial fisherman moved into the area which we have been fishing all spring. Even with the commercial guys fishing hard we are continuing to pull in big numbers.
Capt. Pete had the helm last weekend and he caught our quota of cod fish on Saturday and was close to repeating it on sunday. You throw in the Haddock that was caught and that makes for some very full bags of fish (and some very happy fisherman). Lets hope the fishing remains strong as summer approaches.

Spring Fishing 2009
It has been a great start to the 2009 season. The fishing thus far has been great, even with the increase in keeper size on Cod fish. The Cod and Haddock have been abundant all spring, and hopefully it will hold on a few more weeks. We are looking forward to a long summer of great fishing.
